Links can be used on your projects to represent relationships between different objects and tasks that are being tracked.
For example, Links can show which Asset Builds are being used in which Shots, or can display upstream and downstream dependencies between different tasks.
Viewing Links
Links can be viewed in three separate places on a project:
1. The Sidebar:
On the Links tab, all linked objects and tasks will display in card or list view.
2. In the Task Spreadsheet:
Incoming and Outgoing Links can be added to the Task Spreadsheet from the Attribute menu under the Settings gear menu.
3. In the Gantt view:
Links between tasks only are represented in the Gantt view as arrows between the scheduled tasks bars.
| Note: Links in the Gantt view are covered in detail here. |
Creating Links
To create a new Link on your project, from the Sidebar on the Links tab, click Create Links and select if the Link you will be creating is Incoming or Outgoing.
An Incoming Link is used when the object or task you are creating the link on is dependent on the object or task you are linking to.
Example: Task 2 is dependent on Task 1 being completed.
An Outgoing Link is used when the object or task you are linking to is dependent on the object or task that you are creating the link on.
Example: Task 2 needs to be completed before Task 3 can start.
Once you select the direction of your link, a dialog window will display with your entire project structure. Select the objects you would like to link to by clicking the checkboxes next to them, then click Select.
Your Links will then be visible in the object or task's sidebar.
When inspecting Links in the Sidebar, the icon next to the thumbnail will indicate which direction the Link was created.
Links can also be created or edited from the Task Spreadsheet by right-clicking on the object or task on which you would like to create a Link.
Removing a Link
To remove a Link, from the Links tab in the Sidebar for the object or task, hover over the Link you wish to remove, and click the broken link icon that appears.
| Tip: To link objects across different projects, Custom Attribute Links must be used. |
