What can be the reason if ftrack doesn’t update some views or connect properly?
ftrack is currently using a web socket technology to dynamically update the interface. You can verify that WebSockets are working by looking at the Diagnostics page in System settings.

What is the difference between states and statuses?
The primary difference between states and statuses is that statuses are configurable while states are not. Each status is set up to correspond to a specific state which can be any of Not Started, In Progress, Done, and Blocked. Since statuses are configurable ftrack needs a way to know how a specific status should be handled internally, and that is why states are locked to only built-in ones.
